We are currently in the midst of a global pandemic, as the COVID-19 virus has infected people all across the globe. Cases continue to rise in Canada, and in particular, in Windsor, Ontario, which had the highest new case rate at the beginning of January 20211. This is of concern because with increasing cases, there is an increase in hospitalization, burdening the health care system, and decreasing the number of hospital beds available. Patients aged over 65 are overrepresented in COVID-19 positive patients that are hospitalized, and there are additional factors to consider for their discharge, such as retirement home COVID-19 protocols. This project will be a retrospective chart review of 100 COVID-19 positive patients aged over 65 to assess how length of stay varies across senior patient populations based on the location of discharge, and to assess any delays that occur during discharge.

The project is designed to aid in optimizing community discharge planning, by identifying the barriers that delay discharge. By identifying the barriers, in the future we can determine solutions to increase discharge efficiency. Project
