Gamification is the use of game elements and mechanics as well as game design techniques in non-game contexts to encourage participants to perform pre-defined behaviours. As such, gamification offers a promising approach to slowing the spread of COVID-19 through a fun, creative and innovative game dynamic that will encourage people to maintain social distancing and isolation. The long-term goal of this research project is to contribute to ending the COVID-19 outbreak by faciliating management leadership and universal, proactive involvement in social distancing and self-isolation. To achieve this goal, the study team will develop an effective gamification system for COVID-19 to motivate people and to increase engagement and participation for social distancing and self-isolation.
