Dr. Dora Cavallo-Medved completed her PhD in Biochemsitry at the University of Windsor. She is currently the Interim Dean, Faculty of Science for the University of Windsor. She is also a Learning Specialist Professor in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Windsor and also holds Adjunct Assistant Professor status in the Department of Pharmacology at Wayne State University. Dr. Cavallo-Medved is the Translational Research Director for the WE-SPARK Cancer Research Group, and co-chair of the WE-SPARK Knowledge Translation Committee.
Dr. Cavallo-Medved’s research is focused on the breast cancer microenvironment and the interactions between cancer and normal stromal cells (e.g., endothelial cells, fibroblasts, macrophages, etc.). Her long term research objectives are to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that are regulating protease expression and activity within the breast cancer microenvironment and to identify novel therapeutic strategies against the disease. Her research also focuses on the development of cancer and biomedical education and the role of student-faculty partnerships in experiential learning.
