Dr. Dora Cavallo-Medved currently serves as the director of the WE-SPARK Health Institute. She is also an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Science for the University of Windsor and a Learning Specialist Professor in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Windsor.
Dr. Cavallo-Medved completed her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Windsor and postdoctoral fellowship in the Pharmacology Department at Wayne State University. Her research is focused on the cancer microenvironment and the interactions between cancer and normal stromal cells (e.g., endothelial cells, fibroblasts, macrophages, etc.), and molecular mechanisms that regulate protease expression and activity within the cancer microenvironment. Her research also focuses on the development of cancer and biomedical education programs and the role of student-faculty partnerships in health experiential learning. Dr. Cavallo-Medved has been the principal/co-investigator on several nationally funded scientific and pedagogical research projects and has led several multidisciplinary health and education research teams.
